Harsh winds have blown, driving cutting sands in their path. This old stump has watched over this spot faithfully for a very long time. It's gone from young tree to old timer to old sentinel. He's still here!

The background is Bryce Canyon, the well-known national park in Utah. A brief rain squall is blowing across the horizon, bringing a refreshing shower to the dry desert land.
